Howdy, É«Õ¾Ö®¼ÒCommunity,

We will be celebrating the International Year of Camelids with the theme, Guardians of the Highlands and Deserts: Sustaining Lives and Traditions during É«Õ¾Ö®¼ÒBaguio’s United Nations Week from Monday October 21st – Friday October 25th. This year should touch a little more closely to home as Baguio is in the Cordilleras highlands. It is important to find out how we can give conservation and sustainable development to keep the region thriving and flourishing for the centuries to come.

To kick off our UN Week celebrations, we had a special All School assembly hosted by the Global Issues Network Club yesterday, October 16, 7:45-8:25 at the chapel. The GIN Assembly centered around the UN Day theme of “Guardians of the Highlands and Deserts,” where students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving these ecosystems and cultural traditions. They also participated in engaging activities like collage making and shelter building.

Monday, October 21 -Thursday, October 24: Dining Hall lunches will be based on a different cuisine each day (chosen by members of Model United Nations)

Below is a list of various events and the  that will take place over the week to celebrate Brent’s cultural diversity while also participating in activities surrounding the UN Week theme:

Wednesday, October 23rd is an all school chapel featuring our special guest speaker:and a dedicated Sustainability Educator, has been a key figure in promoting environmental sustainability and empowering marginalized communities. All are invited.

Thursday, October 24th, Stories of Sustainability, 1:30-2:30 p.m.: Through his groundbreaking work, including the reforestation of 4,000 hectares of ancestral Aeta land in Zambales, , has demonstrated how eco-friendly initiatives can create sustainable livelihoods for indigenous communities. With partnerships spanning government, NGOs, and the private sector,  Raf has been a valued speaker at Brent’s UN Week multiple times, including his contributions to our 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2022 events, where he inspired our students with his insights on sustainable development and community-driven solutions. We are thrilled to welcome him back this year for what promises to be another impactful session.

Friday, October 25th will be our main UN DAY where all are invited to dress up in a national costume and enjoy the UN potluck food fest lunch at the gymnasium.   Members of the PTA will be sharing food that celebrate the É«Õ¾Ö®¼ÒBaguio community. As we aim to be environmentally mindful, all students/families are requested to bring their own tumbler. Environmentally friendly cutlery and plates are encouraged.

Here’s giving thanks in advance for the hard work that these groups and the UN committee are putting into organizing this event! We look forward to a successful celebration of this year’s theme, while developing awareness of the importance of sustainable highland and desert development in our community and all around the world!

Happy UN Week, everyone!

Sincerely,
